Even fur people like to be hugged!
I find it funny (not humerous ha ha funny, but odd funny), that I work for such an amazing company and yet none of us have ever blogged about ‘hugging’, at least not until we had our own Keith Oden, President at Camden do a guest blog (click here to view) this week. Anyone who works for Camden knows we “break the normal HR rules”, and we hug whenever we meet. Hugging is just how we say hello, goodbye, or as Keith pointed out, welcome back from lunch!
Human Resource departments across the country are probably reading this thinking “OH NO!!” , however, at Camden we all wonder why they think it is such a big deal. We respect those who do not want to hug – but we let them know that they need to tell us if they are not huggers…we even have pins they can wear! I do beleive a hugging 101 class is in the works for Camden U!
Did you know that in 2007 a 13 year old student was disciplined at school because she hugged her friends goodbye as they parted for the weekend? And in 2011 a 14 year old boy was disciplined at school for the same reason? These two kids need to apply to our company!
Hugging makes people feel good (unless you are one of those non-huggers). There is even a national hug day! No kidding – January 21st – hug everyone you see, well, you may want to ask first – there is an etiquette to hugging.
I think huggers are happier, less stressed. It’s always good to know that whether you are celebrating or struggling – a hug makes it better! So today, and certainly on National Hug Day, get out there and hug someone – even your four legged fur person!
hugging offers a physical connection, even on a platonic level. It makes you feel comforted, supported, cared for, and the affection does have an impact on happiness. If people don’t believe that, make their own study: hug someone daily for two weeks and don’t hug for two weeks and see if there is a difference in your happiness level! Dare to hug! I will, thanks for this reminder! And that great companies do exist.
