**Today’s entry is brought to you by another Guest Blogger, Hollie Lawing. Hollie is the Community Manager of Camden Westview. She, along with all our other Dallas managers, has fielded calls all week about the strange smells around our apartments. Fear not! She will answer all your questions below!**
Our unusually warm winter weather has made me want to go outside and take a deep breath of fresh air. However, instead of the smell of a wonderful spring-like day, I have been rewarded with a pungent odor! Yes, it stinks out there! It’s not just you and no, it’s not your neighbor (well, at least not this time). Tis the season for mulch, but why does it have to smell so bad?
The pros of using organic mulch on our landscaping far outweigh the smelly cons. Mulching twice a year has many great benefits: adding nutrients to the soil, insulating the ground from hot and cold extremes, and increasing water retention. Installing mulch during the winter months helps the roots maintain an even temperature during the brief freezes that North Texas gets. Not only does it maintain new plant growth, it significantly improves the look of our communities. Mulch also helps Camden‘s efforts to Go Green! Using mulch extends the amount of time between watering allowing us to conserve that precious natural resource.

This photo is for demonstration purposes only. Please do not attempt to get that close to the mulch as you might end up smelling like a compost pile for days on end!
Did you know that Camden has an entire Landscape Department that is trained on how to choose the best options for our communities based on regional location? They design our landscape for not only for the best “WOW” factor when driving up, but to make sure that our regional weather can support the type of plants that are installed. Palm trees and DC don’t mix just like the Arctic Willow would not find comfort in Dallas.
This week while you walk around your community humming the tune to “Smelly Cat” think about how the forecasted rain is about to wash away the smell, but our beautiful landscaping will be there welcoming you home for many years to come!

smelly smelly smelly smelly bad smelly mulch…It’s not your fault!
