I am OBSESSED with the Olympics! From the Olympic trials through the opening ceremonies and events, I could watch them all day, every day. It could be archery, judo, swimming or my personal favorite, gymnastics; it does not matter to me. Through the heartwarming stories of athletes that overcome tremendous obstacles to get to the Olympics or the gut wrenching finishes where you have to go to the replays to see who wins, I love every part of it. Maybe my parents didn’t get the memo that I was supposed to be a world renowned athlete? Just kidding, at 5 feet 2 inches tall, my running and jumping skills are probably not up to par to compete in the Olympics.
The 2012 Olympic Games in London are especially exciting this year, because all of Camden (myself included) have a special tie to the games! Swimmer Nick Thoman is not only a world class swimmer, he is also a Camden resident right here in Charlotte! We have been cheering him on from here in the good ole’ U-S of A through the qualifiers and all the way to London!
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Nick graduated from the University of Arizona and has won numerous swimming medals throughout his career. And if you are as caught up in the Olympics as I am, be sure to watch TONIGHT as Nick will compete in the finals for the 100 meter backstroke! He has made it through the first rounds and is competing for the medals tonight! It is so exciting, I can hardly stand it!
Best of luck to Nick and all of Team USA throughout the London games, you all make us so proud!
All of Camden and the rest of the United States are behind you Nick!! Go Team USA!
