The weather isn’t the only thing in Dallas that’s HOT, HOT, HOT right now. Over the past year we have also seen a proliferation of trendy Gourmet Food Trucks dotting our landscape during lunch and dinner. My chef husband has been following the migration of this culinary fad from the West Coast for some time now, but I was only introduced to them earlier this year. To be honest, I was a little wary of eating food out of the side of a tin can on wheels. My husband dragged me to a Food Truck Festival down the street from us in the middle of Downtown Frisco, and I have been hooked ever since. A big burrito with fajita steak and French fries? Don’t mind if I do! Salted caramel ice cream and potato chip cookie sandwich? Yes, please! Gourmet grilled cheese? Bring it!! Nom nom nom!!!! I was hooked! I started following my favorite trucks on Twitter so I can find out where they will show up each day. It’s like a fusion of a restaurant and Where’s Waldo. Will the trucks be close to my side of town today? Who knows! I’ll just have to keep stalking their Facebook pages and Twitter feeds to find out!
I am guaranteed to find two spots on a couple of our very own Camden communities – Camden Farmers Market and Camden Design District. US Food Trucks sends out a rotating cast of trucks to Camden Design District on Wednesday nights from 5-8pm and to Camden Farmers Market for lunch on Tuesdays from 11-2pm and dinner on Thursday night from 5-8pm. If you happen to live or work at one of these communities, hooray! You can just walk out the door and pick up dinner for the evening. If you don’t, no worries! These events are open to everyone whether or not you are a Camden resident. If you follow US Food Trucks on Facebook or Twitter, they will announce the line up the day of the events. If you favorite truck is not listed at one of our communities, you can easily find where in the Metroplex they may be landing. My very favorite food truck resource is Dallas Food Truck Foodie. Her website is full of reviews and the latest mobile restaurant news.
Take advantage of our cooler temperatures this weekend and enjoy an al fresco dinner from the side of a truck. I promise you will fall in love!
Happy Weekend!
