It might just be me… but let’s assume it’s not. I cannot keep my trash can smelling fresh nor can I keep it from getting all grimy! Now this of course has only been an issue since moving out on my parents’ house back in 07’. When I lived at home this was NEVER an issue. Mom… how did you do it?
It seems like about once a month I’m fighting my trash can in the shower with bleach and spraying water all over my bathroom. There must be an easier solution. After a few conversations with my Mom & a little research through Google I’ve found just staying persistent with maintaining your trash can is all that’s needed. Well DUH! But here are a few helpful tips…
USE BLEACH
Clear out the trash can of an excess trash, pour in a cup of Bleach and a few drops of dish soap & scrub away! Make sure to rinse well & turn upside to dry.
USE BAKING SODA
After your trash can has been cleaned and dried, simply sprinkle Baking Soda to the bottom of the trash can before placing trash bag, to absorb any future odors. You can also use Baking Soda & a wet cloth to clean your trash can too!
USE CAT LITTER
Yeah, I know… real weird. But the same material used in Cat Litter to capture cat urine & odor can also help with keeping your trash can smelling fresh! Just sprinkle some on the bottom of a clean & dry can before placing trash bag liner.
Now of course following the steps above will help, but it’s also important to be pro-active in taking the trash out. Leaving stinky & leaking bags in your trash will only keep you from maintaining that fresh smelling trash can! Luckily for me living at my Camden community has its perks… all I have to do is properly tie my bag, place it inside my container outside my door and my trash will be picked up Sunday-Thursday in between 6-8 PM.
So let’s see if I can keep it from being stinky!
