Project:  Everyone Deserves to Ride!

So recently, I rediscovered my love for riding bikes.  My wife, kids and I will ride our bikes throughout all of the neighborhoods nearby for a fun little adventure through Henderson and Las Vegas.  None of us ever knew exactly where we were going or where we would end up.  Sometimes my wife and I will take some of the paved trails that are hiding throughout the cities.  It has become a great way to blow off steam, as well as get some good exercise in lieu of going to the gym or working out at home.  This got me thinking: I am very lucky to be able to do this with my family, or even by myself whenever I want.  Not everyone is able to ride bikes whenever they want to because; let us face it; bikes are expensive at times.  Even the cheap ones are still pricey for someone somewhere.  I thought, then, that maybe I should figure out a way to get bicycles in the hands of everyone who wants to ride.  Whether it is for recreation or pure necessity, everyone should have a bike.  I would bet (more…)

I was sent a BuzzFeed titled “The 26 Most Annoying Things about Working in An Office”, in my email today. At first glance, it is hilarious. There are things on the list that most people have to deal with. Being in the United States, we are not always apt to brewing tea, but we are most certainly coffee addicts. The last one to use up the coffee and not auto-refill would make me angry. I have to say, I am partial to drinking Starbucks frappucinos over regular brew coffee in a pot.

The one that stood out the most to me was number 26, “coworkers who are permanently stressed”. According to my comrades, I am that number 26 person. And I have to agree with them, I find myself stressed to the max on a regular basis.

Working in the apartment industry, floor plans, appliances, light fixtures, and cabinets are always on your brain. I love talking to new people that come to the community, as well as existing residents about how they decorate their homes. Camden is flexible with lease terms, which is great for the residents building homes. I have seen residents come and go and show pictures of their new dream homes. I get ideas on how I would like to build my dream home. I am not quite ready to build a house of my own just yet, but I have found a solution to fill my home building urges.

For many of us graduating was the most exciting and stressful time in our lives. Whether you are graduating from High School or College it’s a major life changing experience. You might be a little unsure how to prepare for your first year in the real world. This is where I come in and help! Hopefully my tips that I learned from experience will help you feel more comfortable going into this new chapter of your life.
graduation

Decide where you want to live
This is the time in your life when you can experience new places. If you are not sure where you want to live pick your top three places and narrow it down from there. Or if you left home and went to school out of the state or city now might be a great time to move back closer to family. The options are endless it’s your decision.

Using Social Networking
I think it’s pretty clear that most graduate’s first goal when out of school is to land a job! Using networking through contacts that you have made is a great way to potentially find a job. That could mean going to grab a coffee or lunch with a previous employer. Just have faith in yourself; you might be surprised with how many opportunities there really are for you.

Interviews and resumes
Now it is time to prepare for potential interviews. Once you start applying to places the interviews will start rolling in. Make sure your resume is updated with your most recent accomplishment, previous employments and education. Wearing appropriate attire to an interview can make it or break it. Always look clean and professional. Try on what you are planning on wearing the night before that way you won’t feel overwhelmed the day of your interview. Also prepare for your interview, (more…)

I received the strangest gift last Christmas from my husband…..at first I tilted my head and looked at him funny but as he explained why he bought it, I understood.  Although I would rather have gotten jewelry or a nice purse, I was just grateful it was not a blender or cookware.  As I took it out of the box, (more…)

It’s my Birthday!! What Can I get for Free!! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Everyone enjoys getting things for free especially on your Birthday!! April is my birthday month and so I started to research birthday clubs that I can sign up for to get free items. I was amazed by all that I found. I almost think I need to make myself a list and a map so I can try to hit as many locations as possible on my big day! I’m going to start at Starbucks as I always need my morning pick me up to get my day started.
I always knew that most restaurants that you go to will gladly embarrass you and sing you Happy Birthday and bring you a free dessert. However I have discovered that you can get free meals from and gift cards as well. At Red Robin when you sign up for the red royalty program at RedRobin.com you can get a free Burger during your birthday month. Denny’s and IHOP will give you a free breakfast on your actual birthday. Benihana will give you a gift certificate for $30 dollars off your meal. Jersey Mikes will give you a free drink and submarine sandwich on your actual birthday.
If you are interested in getting loaded up on sweets you have a plethora of locations that you can visit. Baskin Robbins, Coldstone, and Pinkberry all give you a delicious dessert on your big day. Del Taco will give you a free shake.
If you are in CA and you have a love for adventure then you have to try the Catalina flyer you can ride for free on your birthday round trip! Or if you are into skiing then Bear Mountain will let you ski for free on your birthday. Also if you are in the mood to cheer loud then you have to attend a Medieval Times show. If you want to keep it to yourself then Redbox will rent you a free DVD on your birthday.
If retail therapy gets you excited then Sephora and Smashbox both will offer you free makeup or a product of their choice. I thought it was interesting that the large chains like K-mart offer you a $5 dollar off coupon. CVS gives you extra care bucks. Victoria’s Secret gives you a $10 gift card to use towards whatever you want. (more…)

Keith Urban sings a song called “Days Go By” and I have caught myself with a line from that song on constant loop in my mind:  “The interstate’s jammed with gunners like me afraid of coming in last”.   We are all competing in the same race but we aren’t equipped the same.

Success will come at different paces and spaces for different people.  Some people expect to move up almost instantly while others may be more secure in an unchanging environment. The rest of us wonder about timing, performance and when we should push or even show-off. (more…)

Spring is FINALLY here (pardon my pause while I do some somersaults) so in the spirit of the Wiz Khalifa song I’m gonna break it down for you. I drive a Black Jetta. It’s normally, ya know, just black. However, in the blooming stages of Spring, it’s black and yellow, black and yellow, black and yellow. I abhor the pollen. Yuck.

See that dusting of yellow, powdery awfulness?

See that dusting of yellow, powdery awfulness?

I so love Spring but my favorite is actually Sprummer. You know when Spring and Summer are kissing each other. It’s right before the temperatures around here get up to 112 degrees and you breathe in eight pounds of water with every breath because the humidity is so ridiculous. Flowers start to bloom, insects start to buzz around and dive-bomb you, your mind state starts to change and everything just comes back to life. I work at Camden Lake Pine and the flowers here just peeked their heads out and the Cherry Trees…well you have to see for yourself.

Spring is intoxicating but mostly I love it because it’s a promise that Summer is coming and when I think of Summer, I think of the beach. So if you crave to be by the beach all the way to your marrow, Camden has quite a few communities that are located along the West and East Coast. (more…)
