Taking the Work Out of Workout

Have you ever been to a Zumba Class? It’s like a super fun dance party with easy choreographed moves that make you forget that you’re even working out. The best part is, that you don’t even need to know how to dance to join in on the fun!

One thing you should know about Camden is that we really like to have fun! We had brain stormed so many fun ideas for resident events.-food trucks, pool party, etc. when we came across the idea of hosting a Zumba class here at Camden Plantation. We figured being that we have this enormous racquetball court, why not take advantage of our wonderful amenities?

We started to research local Zumba instructors in the area and reached out to a few of them. I emailed Catherine and immediately she was on board. We started promoting the event through our Facebook, Twitter, and flyers. We asked residents to RSVP through the portal.

There were 25 people RSVP’ed for the class, and we were so eager to see the turnout and ready to have some fun. Cristina, one of our amazing leasing consultants, and I decided to stay and take part of this awesome event. People that were registered and even some that hadn’t, showed up and were ready to get their dance on. The class was so fun and the instructor was great too! She was very patient and involved and danced with us and in between us. It was only one hour and you wouldn’t even think that with all the laughter and smiles that you we were burning calories. The group had  such a good time, that they asked for an encore!

We will now be hosting Zumba classes at Camden Plantation every Thursday at 7pm starting December 3rd. So if you haven’t taken a Zumba class yet or are looking for a great place to have fun with your neighbors, come to our very own Zumba class!

I enjoy doing special things to make my houseguest feel welcomed and here are just a few tricks that make the experience memorable.

Quick and Delicious Dinner Idea: 45 Minute Ravioli!

I’m not much of a chef. In fact, the only thing I’ve really perfected cooking in my lifetime is spaghetti, until now! I found an amazing recipe online and it was so delicious and easy I wanted to share! This ravioli paired with a little garlic bread and salad is simply to DIE for!

The great thing about this particular recipe is, if you don’t like or eat meat, you can use cheese-stuffed ravioli pockets and make it a vegetarian meal! How awesome is that?! Just a reminder, if cooking for a vegetarian, opt for a regular tomato sauce, rather than marinara. Only 3 ingredients and a 45 minutes to bake, how can you go wrong with this recipe? Oh, that’s right, you can’t.  Check it out!

You can purchase all of these ingredients at your local grocery store

1 bag (25 Oz. Bag) Frozen Ravioli

1 jar (26 Oz. Jar) Marinara Sauce

2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Parmesan Cheese, For Sprinkling

Heat oven to 400°F. Spray bottom and sides of a 9×13 rectangular baking dish with cooking spray.

Spread 3/4 cup of the pasta sauce in baking dish. Arrange half of the frozen ravioli in a single layer over the sauce; top with half of the remaining pasta sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers once, starting with ravioli. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil; bake uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes longer or until bubbly and hot in the center. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Scavenger Hunt: A Great Community Event!

Scavenger hunts are the classic game of searching for an item to receive a prize. Who would have thought that adults would love a scavenger hunt? At Camden Fairfax Corner, our Assistant Manager, Samuel, came up with the idea to hide 55 yellow rubber ducks around the community for our current and future residents to find. After a duck is found and brought to the office, a prize is given out. You may choose to use yellow rubber ducks for your scavenger hunt, or maybe another small plastic toy.

Snack Swap

This blog is totally inspired by my awesome Assistant Manager, Gina Grogan. Gina is not only our powerhouse Assistant Manager at Camden Phipps, but she is always on the right track as far as eating habits despite my love for food, somewhat persistent suggestions to eat all things comforting, and full of calories.

One day my foodie powers were no match for Gina’s commitment to healthy snacking. I was in one of my normal moods for something crunchy, salty, and smothered in chocolate. I quickly resorted to thinking I should take a chocolate run for a giant box of Nestle’s Buncha’ Crunch, just as Gina suggested, of all things, Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters. Can you believe it? “Skinny Cow? No way! I can’t! I won’t!,” I proclaimed to Gina. If you know Gina, you know she has the sweetest little voice no matter how pumped a person may be. She looked at me with eyeballs, like the cat from Puss in Boots and sweetly said, “Just try them.”

I apprehensively took the bag from her, pretended to struggle with the sealed package, which prompted a little “really!?” look from Gina. I had already prepared myself for some overly healthy, wheat tasting, protein packed flavor of chocolate. I took one of the chocolate morsels out of the bag and to my surprise I had bitten into my new go-to chocolate snack. The taste was just as amazing as the calorie count! Gina dug deep, found her inner five-year old and said to me, “Told ya'” right before proceeding to lease yet another apartment. That day was her day, needless to say. I even think she had her new uniform on!

Thanks to Gina, I’ve begun switching out more of my not so good snacks for healthier options.

For example, I adore cupcakes. I found a much lighter option in Angie’s Vanilla Cupcake
Kettle Corn. The light sweetness and salt are reminiscent of the butter and vanilla used when baking a cake. Simply divine! Hurry and grab this snack because it’s normally only around during the Valentine’s Day holiday or order some Angie’s Popcorn online.

Another snack I’ve switched is my obsession with banana nut muffins. I’ve found that the Banana Nut deliciousness put together by the folks over at Quaker will do just fine. I save 40 to 50 calories each time I make the swap.

I’m sure you may switch out snacks or opt for healthier eats to regulate your snack cravings too. What are some of your favorite snack swap?

I am Divergent.

Most recently, the residents of Camden Fairfax Corner have banded together and started a monthly book club. They meet in each other’s apartments to discuss the book and enjoy wine and food.

Increase the Peace

The New Year is upon us and I wanted to come up with a pretty nifty plan to maintain a sense of tranquility as often as possible, and most importantly to spoil myself. Below I’ve listed 10 easy ways you can transform your abode into your very own milieu of serenity.

1. Light aromatic candles. Choose tranquility scents such as Bath & Body Works’ Lavender Vanilla or my favorite Eucalyptus spearmint.
2. Take a hot bubble bath. Throw in some deliciously scented bath bombs by popular cosmetic line, Lush. Choose a scent you’re comfortable having permeate your home, as these bath bombs are off the charts on the scent-o-meter.
3. After a long day and hot shower place two slices of cucumber on your eyes for a cooling stress reliever.
4. Give your skin an appeasing treat by opting for a Body Butter instead of your day to day lotion.
5. Create your own infused water by adding your favorite fruit and/or veggies to a pitcher of water and ice. Place the pitcher of water in the fridge overnight.
6. Add a relaxing music mix to your collection such as the sound of waves.
7. Light candles, turn on a small table top water machine, and enjoy a nice book or nap.
8. Wrap up in a robe and moisture lock socks after a hot bath.
9. Add the slices of 5 lemons to your bath water to help pull toxins out of the skin, uplift your spirit, and even your skin tone.
10. Take time for you!

Happy relaxing!

Animal Shelters need your help.

One of the many reasons I love my job is because I am able to get involved with charities and organizations that could use a helping hand. Camden is no stranger to giving back to our communities and we all are known for getting our hands dirty from time to time when we do so. The latest venture we are working on is to benefit local animal shelters surrounding the Las Vegas area and Camden Communities. Continue reading

Fabulous Fall!

This time of year is the bestest! (yes I just created that word!) The autumn season is right after the heat of summer and before the chill of the holiday season which is around the corner! Between the fashionable boots and scarves and the colorful leaves, who could not love this time of year? Depending on where you live, the weather is near perfect! In the morning in here at Camden Atlanta the sun is shining and the air is cool! By the afternoon it is warmer but the evening it is brisk outdoors. This weather is perfect for so many outdoor activities which I narrowed down just for you! Continue reading

Camden Man

Camden Man saved the day at our meeting of the Camden Crusaders

Camden’s mission statement harnesses so much power in just one simple sentence. The one word that really jumps out in this statement is Value. Value signifies Importance and Integrity. Our own personal Value is a superpower that can be mastered with practice.

Let me start off by mentioning the most recent book I’ve had my nose in – The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. These agreements are like superpowers, superpowers that I witnessed at the last meeting of the Camden Superheroes. If you are able to master the power of these four agreements I believe that your personal value will shine through just like it does with our Camden Crusaders. Continue reading
